FAQs
Why is Lehi building a new civic center.
There are two main reasons we are building the new civic center. First, the current library building is over 60 years old and is becoming difficult to maintain and repair. Second, our administration building is at capacity. We simply don’t have room to expand our services and departments.
What will the building be used for?
The new facility will be home to the library, administration, finance, information center, and legal services departments. We will have room to expand well into the future. There will also be a community room for large meetings, both for city and public use.
What will happen to the current city hall building?
The existing facility will be home to human resources, planning, building inspections and information technology departments.
What will happen to the existing library?
The existing library will be torn down to make room for the new building. The current library building has maintenance issues that are beyond repair, including a leaky roof.
What will be included in the new library?
The new library will include an adult area on the first floor and a dedicated children area and teen area on the second floor.
The programming room will double in size and will include state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment. The programming room will be dividable into two separate rooms or combined for one large programming space. It will include projectors, lighting for puppet shows, Bluetooth audio connections, speakers and storage space.
The children's library will feature a learning tree and bookworm theme with custom furniture. The teens will have a dedicated area away from the adult and children's areas for studying and social connections.
What is the purpose of the community room?
The community room, on the first floor, is a large open space that can be divided into three separate training rooms. This space will be used internally for employee trainings and events. The space will also be available for rent by the residents of the community. It can be used for recitals, receptions, meetings, or gatherings. The room will have training tables, round banquet tables, chairs, and audiovisual equipment.
What will happen to the library in the interim?
We are in the process of securing an offsite location to temporarily transfer the library during construction. We expect this to happen in August 2024-Fall 2025. We expect that all services, including programming, will still be available to patrons during construction.
Will the book drop be open during the library closure?
Yes, the book drop will be available until the library has opened the temporary location.
What is happening to the stained-glass fixtures in the library?
The stained glass fixtures will be relocated to the new Civic Center, placed throughout the building in conference rooms and other spaces.
Are Lehi Library programs available at any other location DURING the closure?
The only programs that will be held during the library relocation are Yoga and Kids on the Move. Information about those two programs will be on the library website.
