I understand since this is a conditional-use drive-through it can't be stopped with our current development code but I would like to stress to the Planning Commission to make the change so that drive-throughs are not allowed in our city. All of them increase the impervious surface of the lot and decrease the actual usable land. They have real environmental impacts like the urban heat island effect and creating poorer water run-off. They increase the sedentary nature of our citizens and induce more driving which causes poorer air quality.
Drive-throughs contribute to the isolation of individuals within their vehicles, limiting social interactions and community engagement. Eliminating drive-throughs could encourage people to patronize local businesses and interact with their communities.
Furthermore, the increase in drive-throughs contributes to the homogenization of American cities with identical structures dotting the roadside. Banning drive-thrus could encourage diverse and unique architectural designs that contribute to the character of local neighborhoods, creating a more visually appealing and vibrant community.
Please don't allow this type of infrastructure to be in our great city.
