Consultation has concluded

The applicant is requesting a change to Chapter 37 of the Development Code. The proposed change would add an exception to the rules for connecting nonresidential and residential areas if the connection creates a traffic problem. For example, if a road connection leads to a loading dock or drive-thru, the exception would allow for a bike and pedestrian connection instead of requiring the road to connect through. This exception would be considered case-by-case and would need approval from the Planning Commission.

The reason for this request is to allow for the construction of a grocery store. The proposed road connection from an adjacent subdivision would lead directly into the grocery store's loading dock, where cars and semi-trucks could get in each other's way. The applicant is concerned that requiring the road to go through could cause traffic problems.

Staff also looked at other areas in the city where a similar conflict might happen and found a few other spots with potential issues like this.
