Thank you Paulglover06, we are looking into a Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) ordinance that would encourage the preservation of open space especially for farming. It is hard because the market pressure of the value of land and new neighbors who may not like living next to farms, seems to be increasing their sell and transformation to new developments. Even if the City adopts a TDR ordinance it would require individual land owners to choose to sell their development rights and preserve their agricultural rights.

Has the city considered purchasing the existing farm or cattle lands to maintain as open space? The city could purchase the property and then enter into long term lease agreements with the original owners to ensure its continued usage.

This will maintain some of the original farming community feel of Lehi. This is the reason many people moved here.
